Andrew is an infectious diseases and clinical microbiologist, currently practicing at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. He is co-chair for the antimicrobial stewardship program. Andrew is a PhD student at the University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research where he is studying the relationship between bacterial resistome and phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility testing and the impact on treatment of severe infections.
Andrew is primary investigator for the PANFLUTE study – a pilot multisite RCT comparing benzylpenicillin to flucloxacillin for penicillin susceptible S. aureus bloodstream infection. He is particularly interested in the laboratory detection of blaZ and its relationship with the cefazolin inoculum effect.
